For the three best non-consecutive issues of a printed and/or online magazine published between 1 October 2020 and 30 September 2021. Work published or broadcast between 1 March 2020 and 30 September 2021 relating to the COVID pandemic ONLY will also be accepted.


Printed magazines can be either stand-alone publications or self-contained publications distributed within, or inserted into, a larger publication.


Submitted work must have been produced in Wales, for an audience in Wales. 


You must:

  • Provide links to electronic versions of the three issues – hard copies cannot be accepted. It is a condition of entry that these links must be live, and remain live, until the end of March 2022. Please ensure you provide any passwords required. Failure to do so may result in disqualification

  • Explain in 300 words why your publication deserves to be Magazine of the Year


Judges will be focussing on the quality of journalistic content within the publication. In particular they will be looking for:


  • Range and relevance of journalistic content and editorial values

  • Quality and accuracy of writing

  • Originality of subject matter, execution and angles

  • Reporting rigour – quality of information gathering, depth of research, range of sources

  • Public impact of content

  • Design and quality of production


The organisers reserve the right to mention any entrants to this category and to display any of the work they enter in any publicity and marketing relating to the competition without copyright infringement.


The decision of the judges in this category is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
